With the mixed doubles making their debut on day two, not every seed progressed through to the second round. Kim Young Hyuk and Lee Yu Lim from Korea, seeded second, struggled against a fired-up Wei Chun Wei and Nicole Gonzales Chan from Chinese Taipei. The scores fluctuated between the two pair with Wei and Chan eventually winning in three games. After making their way through qualifying, Shuntaro Mezaki and Hina Osawa came up against Tseng Ping-Chiang/Jiang Yi-Hua who were promoted from qualifying. Both were desperate to progress through the main draw, but only one would do so. After a close first game, Mezaki/Osawa dispatched Tseng/Jiang to move past the first round. Relishing the experience of playing in a BWF Grade 3 event while representing their country, Nathan Guerrero and Janelle Pangilinan struggled against their dominant opposition from the Asia region who offered up a mixed doubles master class.
