WHAT IS BADMINTON?

Badminton is the fastest racket sport in the world. The current Guinness World Record for the fastest smash is held by Malaysian superstar, Tan Boon Heong, at 493 km/h.

Governed by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, badminton is one of the most popular sports participated in globally. The sport has been part of the Summer Olympic programme since 1992 and will be making its Para badminton debut at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

There are five disciplines: Men’s singles, Women’s singles, Men’s doubles, Women’s doubles and Mixed doubles.

Badminton requires a complex level of skill and strategy, with agility, reaction times, endurance, spatial awareness and strength among the many attributes required to compete. The sport also boasts a huge number of physical and mental health benefits.
