The BWF World Senior Championships 2023 begins today in Jeonju, Korea. This biannual tournament showcases the world best seniors and is an individual championship with men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles events.
Over 1300 players from 40 countries will play in this eight-day extravaganza that includes 10 age groups ranging from 35+ to 80+. With five events per age group, that is ALOT of matches.
The level of competition at this senior tournament is always very strong with many former international players continuing their love of badminton into their senior years.
Loke Poh Wong, the Badminton Oceania President headlines the Australian contingent, playing in the 60+ men’s singles. Loke Poh already boasts medals from previous championships which he will be hoping to add to in 2023. Loke Poh’s previous results speaks volume to his ability and competitiveness.

Another player to watch out for is Joe Wu playing in the 35+ men’s singles. He is both the youngest and highest profile New Zealand player in the championships, having represented New Zealand on the international stage for many years, including the 2010 and 2014 Commonwealth Games.
