March 4, 2024 — The recently concluded 2024 NSDF Royal Beach Cliff BWF Para Badminton World Championships (February 20 – February 25) in Pattaya, Thailand, showcased notable performances by our Oceania athletes. The Australian contingent, including Kenneth Adlawan, Qambar Ali Akhteyari, Lachlan Boulton, Katelyn Colley, Caitlin Dransfield, Martyn Ford, Mischa Ginns, Zashka Gunson, Amonrat Jamporn, Macka Mackenzie, Grant Manzoney, Arika Shetty, Fiona Sing, and Celine Vinot, as well as New Zealand’s Thomas Slade, Marinda Jones, and Wojtek Czyz, participated in this pinnacle biennial event.
The singles and women’s doubles categories were particularly noteworthy, with outstanding performances from Mischa Ginns (WS-WH2), Celine Vinot (WS-SL3), Arika Shetty (WS-SL4), Kenneth Adlawan (MS-SL3), and Wojtek Czyz (MS-SL3), all advancing to the Round of 16 in singles. Notably, Amonrat Jamporn/Caitlin Dransfield (WS-SL3-SU5) and Mischa Ginns/Yuka Chokyu (CAN) (WD-WH1-WH2) made it to the Quarterfinals round in women’s doubles of their respective categories.
The significance of these results is heightened as the competition serves as the final qualification event for the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games. With this being the last opportunity for Paralympics qualification, Oceania players now face an anxious wait to determine if they have secured a spot or will be considered for a bipartite position in the upcoming Games.
