2 July 2024 – The second day of the CROWNE PLAZA Northern Marianas Open 2024 (2 -7 July) was filled with exciting and intense matches across four events: men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles ,and mixed doubles. The day began at 10 AM local time at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
Mixed Doubles (XD): The day kicked off with some exhilarating mixed doubles matches. Oceania pairs faced tough opponents, using these encounters as valuable learning experiences to further their careers. Simultaneously, other mixed doubles matches set a high standard for the day with their competitive spirit and impressive rallies.

Men’s Singles (MS): A notable highlight in the men’s singles was the face-off between two friends and training partners from Banthongyord Badminton School in Thailand: Andrew Tan (USA) and Saran Jamsri (THA). Saran Jamsri emerged victorious in this friendly rivalry.

The men’s singles category also saw several upsets, with many seeded players being knocked out. Cheng-Han Tsai from Chinese Taipei defeated Japan’s number three seed, Riku Hatano, Cheng Kai of Chinese Taipei defeated number six seed Shogo Ogawa from Japan, and Jia Wei Joel Koh of Singapore defeated number eight seed, Chen Chi Ting, from Chinese Taipei. Rising star Allan Zeng from Guam faced Japan’s number four seed, Ryoma Muramoto, but Japan clinched the victory. New Zealand’s Oceania Champion, Edward Lau, had an aggressive match against the number two seed, Kuo Kuan Lin from Chinese Taipei, but was unable to secure a win.

Women’s Doubles (WD): An intense match unfolded between Chinese Taipei and Thailand on Court 1, featuring many thrilling and long rallies. Ultimately, Thailand advanced to the next round.

Men’s Doubles (MD): Simultaneously, an equally intense men’s doubles match took place between Thailand’s Narut Saengkham/ Pannawat Theerapanitnun and Vietnam’s Dang Khac Dang Khanh/ Tran Nguyen Chi Tung on the adjacent court, with Thailand emerging victorious. A nail-biting match followed between Chinese Taipei’s Cheng Kai Wen/Liao Chao Pang and Japan’s Tori Aizawa/Daisuke Sano, which saw the highest match point of the tournament so far, 29-27.
