Friday at the YONEX Bendigo International 2023 began with the remaining round of 16 men’s singles matches followed by quarterfinals (all events). From the first match, there was a buzz in the air with the prospect of immense matches to come.
Semifinals will be dominated by players from Chinese Taipei, Japan, Australia, one from New Zealand and one from Singapore.
With the decision on who would make the semifinals meant witnessing some impressive matches on day three. Australian, Jack Yu had a tantalising men’s singles match to win his place in the quarter finals.

Number one seed in the men’s singles, Nguyen Hai Dang could not tame the constant onslaught from Hikaru Minegishi, bowing out of the tournament in the round of 16.

As the session moved on and the quarter finals began, further seeds were dispatched while others cemented their place in Saturday’s semifinals. Even though Ricky Tang and Jack Yu had impressive wins earlier in the day, they could not stop the charging Japanese who comfortably progressed in the draw.

Junior Falcon, Sydney Tjonadi, fresh from an appearance at the BWF World Junior Championships in Spokane, USA showed composure beyond her years to keep in the match against Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaaq. The New South Wales junior kept the match tight then pulled away in the final few points to take the win and set up a semifinal showdown against fellow Australian Ying Tse in the women’s singles.

Keeping themselves in contention for a finals berth, women’s, men’s and mixed doubles pairs will be looking for another strong showing come semifinals on Friday, just as they did today.
