This weekend, Badminton Oceania is partnering up with Counties Manukau Badminton Association and CLM Community Sport to deliver a Pasifika Festival.
The fun-filled day aims to bring badminton to the forefront for Pasifika communities in Auckland and facilitate connections to the national body of their respective countries – our member associations.
From 12 midday – 4pm on Saturday 10 September, families and friends from the local community are invited to participate in an enjoyable afternoon of badminton-filled activities at Counties Manukau Badminton Association in Papakura. There will be plenty of opportunities to socialise, sweat and win spot prizes. Entry and participation is free.
The festival aims to create a legacy with schools in the local vicinity (including Papakura High School and Manurewa Intermediate) who will partake in weekly badminton sessions to increase physical activity and encourage active lifestyles.
“Auckland, which is also where our HQ is based, is home to thousands of Pasifika families and we are excited to try new ways of engaging with those communities and finding ways to increase badminton players and resource to ultimately encourage better physical and mental health, but also help people to realise the potential opportunities within sport”, says Robbie Thackham
