Biography:
I’ve been in a chair for the vast majority of my life so wheelchair sports have always been apart of my life from when I was very young. My parents have always been very supportive when it comes to sport and found Rebound WA, at the time Wheelchair Sports, and took me to Little Dribblers on the Saturday morning where anyone had the opportunity to get in a chair and play Basketball. These sessions were taken by players from the Men’s Team the Wheelcats or the Women’s team the Gliders.
These sessions weren’t always Basketball and they would bring in coaches from other sports as well so after 5 or 6 years of going I played badminton for the first time with the coach Ian Bridge and at the time I was loosing interest in basketball and trying other sports so when Ian said he wanted to start a program I was one of the first people there. The group was small originally with it only being me and another boy who was slightly older than me but it slowly grew and I continued to enjoy and improve at the sport. I attended my first national competition in the years following where I don’t think I won a game but meeting the players from the east coast was an enjoyable experience.
Since then I have attended tournaments across Asia and Europe and have thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it.
Interesting Fact: I was the first person in my friend group to learn how to drive.
