The referee is responsible for the overall tournament competition and ensuring the tournament complies with the laws, rules and regulations as laid out in the Badminton World Federation statutes.
The referee ensures that the playing conditions (including practice facilities) are appropriate for the players with regards to health and safety, approves of the practice and tournament schedule, establishes an appropriate transport setup, ensures that an appropriate panel of technical officials are present and monitors any issues related to the tournament.
QUALIFIED OCEANIA REFEREES

QUALIFICATION AND ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE
To be accepted for assessment as an Oceania Referee, the following criteria will apply:
- Accredited Referee – candidate must be a Certificated level National or Pacific Referee and have held that qualification for a minimum of two years. All nominees must have met their National/Pacific TOC criteria for that Level in the previous 12 months. Understand and speak English fluently.
- Certificated Referee – candidate must be an accredited level Oceania Referee and have held that qualification for a minimum of two years. All nominees must have met both their National/Pacific TOC and the Oceania criteria for that level in the previous 12 months. Understand and speak English fluently.
