The first day at the YONEX Bendigo International 2023 was dominated by the round of 64 Men’s Singles with a handful of matches from the Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles events.
International visitors took control on day one with the majority of wins coming from overseas players. There were however some matches that featured Oceania players that warrant recognition.
First up today was long time Australian representative Pit Seng Low who came out of the gates firing, only to be shut down in the second game. It took a third game and a total of 50 minutes for Low to consolidate the win.

One Australian junior, fresh from representing his country at the BWF Would Junior Championships had a tough first round match. Taking it to three games Shrey Dhand battled through to win his place in the Round 32 on day two of the tournament.

New Zealand players Avinash Shastri and Bevan Cox had a successful day, winning their respective singles matches before teaming up to play and win their Men’s Doubles later in the session.

In the final match of the session, Jun Zong Kayson Goh (AUS) had just begun his Men’s Singles match against Philip Brandt (DEN) when he suffered a serious knee injury, unfortunately having to retire from the match.
Australians, Victoria Tjonadi and Rio Agustino flew through their singles matches without much resistance.
