Special Olympics Samoa had their first taste of badminton when the Shuttle Time Samoa team delivered activities as part of EKS unified sports day.
On 20 July 2017, Special Olympics commemorated their founder with the seventh global Eunice Kennedy Shriver Day. “EKS Day is an annual event celebrated around the world, bringing together people with and without intellectual disabilities in various activities to honor the inspiration, impact and indomitable spirit of Eunice Kennedy Shriver.”
Samoa Badminton Federation was invited by Special Olympics Samoa to be part of their celebratory unified sports day activities held at Marist Primary School. There is good collaboration between the two organisations with newly trained Shuttle Time deliverers Rosie Tone, Tai Time and Sene Makisua part SOS staff, and involved in organising and delivering the entire day, whilst Nynette Sass and Malia Ausage-Pepe delivered activities at the Shuttle Time station.
A whopping 721 students took part in activities demonstrating inclusion, acceptance and unity.
Samoa Badminton looks forward to future collaborations with SOS and supporting their athletes to future Special Olympics events.
