Badminton Oceania is thrilled to announce that the VICTOR Oceania Junior Mixed Team Championships will serve as an official test event for the proposed new BWF scoring system.
Following discussions with the BWF, we confirm that the event will not adopt the team relay format. Instead, we have opted to trial the proposed BWF 3×15 scoring system.
Set to take place from 8–10 June 2025 in Saipan, Northern Marianas, the tournament marks an exciting opportunity to trial this innovative format.
Tie Format:
- Each tie will consist of five matches: Men’s Singles (MS), Women’s Singles (WS), Men’s Doubles (MD), Women’s Doubles (WD), and Mixed Doubles (XD).
- No player may compete in more than two matches per tie.
-
Each match will be played as the best of three games, with the following scoring rules:
-
First to 15 points wins the game.
-
If the score reaches 14-all, a two point lead is required to win.
-
If the score reaches 20-all, the first side to 21 points wins the game.
-
As one of the first junior tournaments globally to trial this proposed format, our Oceania juniors are uniquely positioned to experience and evaluate the new system.
The VICTOR Oceania Junior Individual Championships will still be played in the standard 3×21 format, offering players a valuable comparison between the two scoring styles.
Feedback and Schedule:
All players, coaches, and volunteers will be given the opportunity to share their feedback about the new format after the event.
We anticipate each tie will last approximately 2 to 2.5 hours.
The tournament schedule has been updated to reflect the new format and is now available online.
