Six players from Australia are competing at the Dubai International Challenge 2019 this week, with four of the singles players in action on day one.
Australia’s 2016 Olympian, Hsuan-Yu Wendy Chen, was first up on court. The experienced player kept her cool against India’s 19-year-old Kumari, winning over two convincing games.
Meanwhile, fellow compatriots Ma and Jinjing exit in the first round. Louisa struggled to find her form against her Singaporean opponent, while Qin was forced to retire due to injury.

In the men’s singles, Australia’s Daniel Fan was up against the recently crowned World Junior Men’s Singles Champion (for the third time), Kunlavut Vitidarn. The Thai superstar continued his fine form as he ousted Fan in the first round.

Australia’s Mitchell Wheller and Simon Leung are in action in the Men’s and Mixed Doubles tomorrow. The pair will be looking to go one better than last week’s run at the Bahrain International Series 2019, where they made it to the semi finals. The fourth seeds will take on Thailand’s Chaloempon Charoenkitamorn and Kittisak Namdash in the first round at 4.30pm, local time (GMT+4).
