Badminton Oceania welcomes Tom Leonard to the team, undertaking the role as Communications and Events Manager. Tom joins the team from the UK, with a background in sports studies, marketing and mass participation events – having also written for Badminton Europe’s website and magazine in 2018. This is the second time Tom has returned to New Zealand to live and work in the sports-sector, having previously done a placement year in Auckland five years ago.
The role’s primary function is to develop, co-ordinate, manage and grow Badminton Oceania’s communications channels, including the implementation of a new website, developing a communications strategy and working with the countries across Oceania to develop their player and stakeholder communications. Additionally, Tom will assist the wider team to deliver world-class competitions across Oceania.
“I have played badminton for more than half my life and I am very excited to have this opportunity to promote the sport that I love and work with stakeholders to deliver fantastic events across the continent. I look forward to travelling around with the team and meeting fellow players, volunteers, coaches, umpires and everyone else in the badminton world. Once I recover from a knee injury, I’ll be looking for a local club to join too so I can experience badminton from the other side of the lines once again.”, says Tom.
