To celebrate the annual ‘International Volunteer Day’ (December 5), Badminton Oceania is delighted to announce a new initiative which highlights the hard work undertaken by volunteers across the Pacific.
In the sports sector, volunteers are particularly key to the success of programmes and event activations, spanning across grass roots to elite level performance. Badminton Oceania’s Pacific-based Member Associations are largely run by volunteers who are instrumental in their success and development.
Bringing the organisational values of Innovation, Excellence, Leadership, Integrity and Inclusiveness to the forefront, the initiative aims to profile the volunteers who excel in one of those areas and tell their side of the story in helping to make a difference to others lives through badminton.
Launching for the first time in December 2021, Serve-ing Pacific is a volunteer recognition programme which starts with a nomination process. Committee members of the Pacific-based Member Associations are given the opportunity to nominate individuals who could go on to win a prize. Each month, one winner is selected by a panel of Badminton Oceania’s Head Office staff and Executive Board, who will be profiled and receive a lunch in a local café and restaurant. Moreover, every six months, the previous winners over that last six-month period will be placed into a random prize draw where one winner will be drawn to win a grand staycation prize (terms and conditions are available here).
“Needless to say, if it wasn’t for our volunteers, we simply wouldn’t be able to deliver badminton across the continent. Like most volunteers in sport, we know for a fact that it is the passion for the sport and their community which always prevails as the number one motive.”
“We are extremely excited to be able to share the stories of our volunteers and recognise them in this way, particularly given the challenging last two years that we’ve all experienced, we thought it would be good to give back to these wonderful volunteers and their key support people through prizes which support local”, says Badminton Oceania Secretary General, Julie Carell
The first Serve-ing Pacific winner will be announced later this afternoon. Meanwhile, the next opportunity for board and committee members from Pacific-based Member Associations will open in April 2022.
