It was baptism by fire for some teams from Oceania on day one of the BWF World Junior Mixed Team Championships 2023. Cook Islands faced the ever-improving nation India in their first tie and Germany in their second which proved to be two mountains too high for their first appearance at this tournament.
Tahiti were up against Chinese Taipei and fellow Oceania team New Zealand with mixed results. Even though the struggle was real against Chinese Taipei, the matches were more competitive against their Pacific neighbours resulting in a very close win to New Zealand, with the gap between these two countries getting ever closer.
Australia had the start they wanted in their campaign when they faced Norway in their first tie. Not dropping a match, but with three of them decided in three games, the contest was close until the end.
On day two, Australia face powerhouses China and Korea, Tahiti takes on Denmark and Slovakia while New Zealand also faces Denmark plus Chinese Taipei. Cook Islands do not have a tie, as Dominican Republic have withdrawn from the tournament.
