Day two of the Northern Marianas International 2025 proved to be filled with gruelling matches, decisive victories, and new opportunities.
For many junior Oceania players, they witnessed a higher level of competition that ever before. As the courts continue to heat up, players will continue to put their all on the line for Northern Marianas International victory.
Here’s your day two recap.
Mixed Doubles
Fifth seeds, Landon Kurniawan and Maureen Wijaya (AUS) fell to the Chinese Taipei pair of Tung Jui Hsu and Yu Chen Han in two games (21-15, 21-16).
After progressing through qualifying, the Tahiti pair of Teo Chagnot and Anita Mercier faced their teammates, Mike Mi You and Waianuhea Teheura. Mi You and Teheura quickly took control of the match, wrapping up two games in 16 minutes to win 21-6, 21-4.
Following her successful day one, Tonrug Saeheng (THA) took to the court with her brother Tonkid Saeheng. The pair were up against the runner-ups from the VICTOR Oceania Junior Championships, Shrey Dhand and Mimi Ngo (AUS). After going down the first game, the Australians’ fought to force a third, but they had no answer to the Thai doubles’ attack late in the second game. Saeheng and Saeheng secured the win 21-15, 21-18.
Local pair, Daniell Pablo and Janelle Pangilinan were the first Northern Marianas duo to progress to the next round. They will be joined by Andreau Galvez and Jenine Savellano, who took down Cook Islands’ Edward Patai and Lana Toa for a spot in the round of 16.

Men’s Singles
Early in the day, Korea’s Park Sihyun took on fifth seed, Huan Kai Hern (MAS). Right from the first minute, the two were inseparable. Neither opponent held a lead of more than three at any point in the first game. After Park’s late surge to even the score at 20-all, Huan applied the pressure to come away with the game one win. Park refocused to force a third game, which proved to be a thrilling contest filled with emotion and grit. After nearly 70 minutes, it was Huan that came away with the match win (22-20, 15-21, 25-23).
Australia’s Shrey Dhand faced Chinese Taipei’s Hsu Yu-Han. With long rallies and traded leads, especially in the second game, it was finally Dhand who emerged victorious, winning the match 21-12, 21-19.

Ricky Tang (AUS) vs. Jay Xuan Tan (NZL): 21-17, 21-14
Kim Byung Jae (KOR) vs. Eric Lu (NZL): 21-12, 21-12
Yi Mai (TPE) vs. Zhi-Ron Tan (AUS): 21-17, 21-11
Men’s Doubles
In a rematch of the VICTOR Oceania Junior Men’s Doubles Finals, New Zealand’s Raphael Deloy and Lezhi Zhu stepped onto the court against Australia’s Landon Kurniawan and Phillip Halim. Looking even stronger than last week, the New Zealand pair closed out the match in a mere 22 minutes, with a score of 21-11, 21-16 over the Australians.
The Trans-Tasman pair of Billy Li (NZL) and Zhi-Ron Tan (AUS) also secured their spot in the next round with a win over Tahiti’s Matt Chagnot and Mike Mi You with a decisive 21-14, 21-14 victory.
Two Northern Marianas duos secured a place in the round of 16. Rolando Gallardo and Andreu Galvez commanded the court with a win over Guam’s Corey Lei and Fiji’s Tony Zhou, while Marlon Bautista and Dave Bryan Odicta beat Kevin Du and Ethan Gibson (FIJ).
Five Chinese Taipei pairs also progressed to the next round.
