Australia named their nine players that will travel to Xiamen, China next month for the TotalEnergies BWF Sudirman Cup Finals 2025.
Women Bring Experience
Tiffany Ho will spearhead the team, returning for her fourth BWF World Mixed Team Championship. Her company on the women’s side includes Olympians Gronya Somerville and Angela Yu. Commonwealth Games competitor, Kaitlyn Ea, is also named in the squad.
Bernice (Kai Qi) Teoh rounds out the women’s quintet. She will make her first TotalEnergies BWF Sudirman Cup Finals appearance for the Falcons.
“I’m very excited and this selection means a step further in my badminton career as playing in the Sudirman Cup has been a milestone to reach,” Teoh said. “I’m prepared to put my best foot forward, whether it’s on court or off court cheering. It’s an amazing chance to get to be part of the team alongside my talented teammates.”
Men Balance Youth and Skill
Shrey Dhand will return to the court to represent the green and gold after not competing for the Falcons in the VICTOR Oceania Mixed Team Championships earlier this year.
His teammates include Jack Yu, the young Queenslander who took out the VICTOR Oceania Men’s Singles title in February, and Ricky Tang, who played alongside Yu in the TotalEnergies BWF Sudirman Cup Finals in 2023.
Frederick Zhao is the final member of the squad. One of the youngest Falcons on the team, he says it’s an honour to be selected for such a high-profile event.
“Experiencing this at such an early stage in my senior career makes me both excited and proud,” Zhao said. “It’s also a very valuable opportunity for me to grow as a player. Competing against the best in the world and observing how they train and perform will be very beneficial, pushing me to improve and giving me more motivation to reach higher levels.”

Eight of the nine selected players were part of the team that claimed the Whyte Trophy and Mixed Team title earlier this year.
Australia Drawn in Formidable Group C
Australia enters the competition as the 14th seed. The group stage draw was conducted last week and the Oceania champions were placed in the contentious Group C. They will face fourth and fifth seeds Japan and Malaysia. France, who’s players have shown their prowess in recent results, are also in the group.
Group C is predicted to showcase some of the closest ties of the first stage of the competition, alongside Group D. The latter group includes Indonesia (2nd seed), Denmark (6th Seed), India (9th Seed), and England (13th Seed).
Following the group stage, the top two teams from each group will qualify for the knockout stage (quarter finals).
The 19th edition of the TotalEnergies BWF Sudirman Cup Finals for the World Mixed Team Championships will run from 27 April to 4 May 2025.
