As part of the Oceania development programme the U19’s national teams from Australia and New Zealand are in Magelang, Indonesia in preparation for the BWF blibli.com World Junior Championships. The training camp is to help them aclimatise and gain some much needed experience in a different environment.
Prior to the World Junior championships players need these opportunities to be ready to compete at their absolute best and make the most of their tournament opportunities overseas. 8 players from New Zealand along with 8 from Australia and their accompanying coaches have had an opporunity to train with Indonesian badminton legend Christian Hadinata – the coach responsible for Indonesia’s mens doubles successes.
Thanks to blibli.com and the Djarum foundation for putting on this event which included 8 different countries and a mini tournament following the training camp players will be better prepared to take the court in the World junior event. This stepping stone allows players to gain knowledge and push themselves in a climate much hotter than what they are normally used to – with this experience at the start of an international badminton career we hope to see the players put the opportunity to full use and work hard in the transition to the senior circuit.
