The final day of competition at the MAXX North Harbour International 2025 brought exhilarating matchups, fierce rivalries, and unforgettable performances across all five disciplines. From comeback victories to all-Chinese Taipei showdowns, the athletes left everything on court in pursuit of gold. Here’s how the champions were crowned.
Men’s Singles
It was a faceoff between the number one and number two seeds in the men’s singles final. Number two, Ting Yen-Chen (TPE) jumped into action immediately. He worked up a substantial lead in the opening minutes and was poised to close down the first game quickly. However, it would have been wrong to count the number one seed, Wang Po-Wei (TPE), out. Wang closed the deficit when it mattered most, right before match point, but could not secure the first game. However, this laid the foundation for the next two, as Wang Po-Wei tested his opponent again and again. It was nearly impossible for him to shake Ting, but his chance came right at the end of the third game. After pressing Ting heavily, a mistake gave Wang the window he needed to secure the title. Wang Po-Wei won the MAXX North Harbour International 2025 20-22, 21-18, 21-19.
Women’s Singles
In one of the most highly anticipated matches of the day, fan favourite Mikaela Joy De Guzman (PHI) played number one seed Tung Ciou-Tung (TPE). De Guzman took command of the first game, storming to a 21-12 win. After the interval, Tung returned to the court recomposed. With her new confidence, she halted De Guzman’s momentum and pushed herself to win the match 12-21, 21-11, 21-14.
Men’s Doubles
The men’s doubles final was another three-match thriller. Su Ching Heng/Wu Guan Xun (TPE) began the match with explosiveness and flair, taking the first game 21-13 over fellow Chinese Taipei players Chen Zhi Ray/Lin Yu Chieh. A lapse in focus, and more importantly, a surge in energy resulted in Chen/Lin battling back in the second to force a decider. It was hard to seperate the opponents, but in the end Su Ching Heng and Wu Guan Xun proved too strong for Chen/Lin. Final score – 21-13, 18-21, 21-18 to Su/Wu.
Women’s Doubles
The women’s doubles was an All-Chinese Taipei affair. After suffering defeat in the women’s singles earlier this week, Chen Su Yu/Yi En Hsieh clearly were hungry for redemption. From the onset, the pair dictated the pace of the match, and while their opponents, Ruo Hsuan Ko/Lee Yu-Hsuan, were able to find gaps occasionally, they could not stop Chen/Hsieh’s path to victory. The final score was 21-15, 21-16 to Chen Su Yu and Yi En Hsieh.
Mixed Doubles
Australia’s Andika Ramadiansyah/Nozomi Shimizu took the court against Lin Yu Chieh/Lee Chih Chen (TPE) as the lone Oceania players in the final.
From the first serve, Lin and Lee moved around the court with ease, making life complicated for their opponents. After racing to an early lead, the Chinese Taipei pair settled into the game. With precise shots and expert decision making, they continued to rack up points. The Australians attempted to close the gap, but there was little they could do against Lin/Lee. 32 minutes later, the champions were crowned. Lin Yu Chieh and Lee Chih Chen won the match 21-14, 21-10.
