Following his assessment at the recent TotalEnergies BWF World Championships 2022, New Zealand Umpire Kelvin Tsui has successfully passed to become a BWF Umpire.
His umpiring journey started in 2013 and over the last nine years, he has officiated at many tournaments in Oceania and beyond, including:
- Continental Championships (able-bodied and Para badminton)
- Samoa 2019 Pacific Games
- World Championships
- New Zealand and Australian Badminton Open(s)
- Some of Oceania’s BWF Grade Three tournaments
- Macau Open 2018
- Korea Masters 2019, and more.
Much to his delight, the new accreditation (previously an Oceania Certificated Umpire) opens a world of opportunities, with the potential to umpire at future Olympic and Paralympic Games, World Championships and HSBC BWF World Tour Finals.
“I m really happy and honored to be appointed as a BWF umpire. It’s been a long road and I m really grateful for all the support that has got me here. I m looking forward to contribute more to the badminton community.”, says Kelvin.
Kelvin acknowledged the family of technical officials around the world for their assistance and knowledge-sharing.
Badminton Oceania is excited to watch Kelvin represent our continent and umpire at more tournaments around the world as he progresses on his journey as a BWF Umpire.
