Friday 11 October 2024 – The third day of Yonex Bendigo International concluded all round of 16’s across the 5 disciplines, as remaining players charge ahead into the quarter final stage.
Action was intense from match number one, with the young Australian mixed duo Jordan Wang/ Sarah Ung up against Wilson Li from Australia and Yi Tsen Hsieh from Chinese Taipei. The scoreline was even throughout the entirety of game one, pushing players to go the extra mile to gain the lead. Li and Hsieh narrowly gained an advantage, taking the first game 22-20. Resetting their game plan, Wang and Ung found a pace that worked in their favour and played with cohesion to exploit gaps in their opponents’ defense.
Another Oceania battle between Rayne Wang/Kaitlyn Ea from Australia against Dylan Soedjasa/Camellia Zhou from New Zealand. The Kiwis played with composure in game one, controlling the pace and finding their rhythm in their first debut partnership tournament to take the first. Wang/Ea responded fiercely in the second, pushing the pace to even the match. The decisive third game was a tactical battle, but Soedjasa/Zhou capitalized on a mid-game lead and secured the victory 21-19, 17-21, 21-16.
A tight match for Edward Lau from New Zealand against second seed Wang Po-Wei from Chinese Taipei, keeping audiences at the edge of their seats. Neither side was willing to let the shuttle touch the floor, determined to dive to each corner to retrieve the shot. For the thrilling 60 minute match, it was Wang Po-Wei who was victorious, winning 21-13, 17-21 and 21-18.
One of the final matches of the day featured India’s Arathi Sara Sunil/Varshini Viswanath Sri against Chen Su Yu/Yi En Hsieh from Chinese Taipei. Both pairs battled fiercely, using strategic placement to find gaps in their opponents’ defense. The Indian pair capitalized on errors from their competitors to take the first game 21-18. However, Chen/Hsieh regrouped in the second game, leveraging their power and composure to turn the match around. Maintaining their momentum, the Chinese Taipei duo advanced to the quarterfinals with a 18-21, 21-18, 21-13 victory.
The tournament now enters the final play-off stages, with Quarter Finals beginning at 10am and Semi Finals set to play out in the same evening.
