The Serve-ing Pacific June winner is Barry Whiteside from Badminton Fiji. Barry is well known within the Oceania region through the work that he has done as the President of Badminton Fiji a role in which he was in for over 20 years.
Barry has had a considerable amount of influence and impact on badminton in Fiji during his time as President and it is no surprise that he was nominated in the leadership category for Serve-ing Pacific.
The new Badminton Fiji President, Joe Gibson says “Barry has been a great leader and a guiding hand for everyone who has been a part of our badminton family. I have learnt a lot from him. He has guided our Federation into incorporating badminton for all levels and was instrumental in promoting the formation of clubs”.
Barry will remain as a member of the Badminton Fiji Committee offering guidance and advice to Joe in his new role.
Some honorable achievements during Barry’s time as President include 2 teams winning Gold at the Pacific Games in both 2003 and 2019 as well as managing the Fiji badminton team at the 2018 Commonwealth Games held in the Gold Coast, Australia.
