The finalists have been decided at the Australian Junior International 2019.
Australia proved their strength and depth in the Mixed Doubles after an all-Australian affair guarantees the Gold medal for the nation tomorrow.
Meanwhile, fifteen-year-old Lee Yu-Hsuan from Chinese Taipei extended her impressive run with formidable performances in the Women’s Singles and Doubles. She will be joined by the likes of Men’s Doubles Junior sensation, Chen Zhi Ray and Cheng Kai Wen.
Women’s Singles
Australia’s Kaitlyn Ea started out strong with a confident first game against the first seed. The underdog kept in close range to Angela Yu, but an injection of pace and precise placement to the four corners saw Yu power through in the deciding game.
In the final, she will face Chinese Taipei’s Lee Yu-Hsuan who has been in formidable form all week, not dropping a single game on route to the final.
- Angela Yu (AUS)[1] vs Kaitlyn Ea (AUS)[4] 13-21 21-18 21-9
- Lee Yu-Hsuan (TPE) vs Liao Tzu Yi (TPE) 21-13 21-12
Men’s Singles
Rio Agustino kept his composure after surviving four game points and taking the first game on the second time of asking against Chinese Taipei’s Lai Pin Da. Unfortunately, the highly contested game quickly diminished into a one-sided affair for Rio as a clearly agitated Lai was struggling with an ankle injury and hobbled through the second game.
- Rio Agustino (AUS)[1] vs Lai Pin Da (TPE) 26-24 21-2
- Liao Po Kai (TPE) vs Otto Xing De Zhao (AUS) 21-19 21-14
Women’s Doubles
The biggest upset of the tournament so far came in the Women’s Doubles as the top two seeds were knocked out. Angela Yu’s chance of appearing in all three finals was taken by the ladies from Chinese Taipei, while the second seeds were defeated by fellow compatriots Victoria He and Jianqio Li.
- Victoria He/Jianqiao Li (AUS) vs Majan Almazan/Kaitlyn Ea (AUS)[1] 16-21 21-19 21-15
- Lee Yu-Hsuan/Liao Tzu Yi (TPE) vs Angie Liu/Angela Yu (AUS)[2] 19-21 21-17 21-6

Men’s Doubles
Tournament favourites, Chen and Cheng, maintained their stronghold on the Men’s Doubles draw following another scintillating performance this evening. They will be joined by another Chinese Taipei pair in tomorrow’s final who edged past Australia’s second seed in two nail-biting games.
- Chen Zhi Ray/Cheng Kai Wen (TPE)[1] vs Julian Mao Lun Lee/Hongyuan Wong (AUS)[3] 21-12 21-12
- Chu Tzu Cheng/Lai Pin Da (TPE) vs Ricky Tang/Otto Xing De Zhao (AUS)[2) 21-17 21-19
Mixed Doubles
One of the last games of the night provided another shock upset to the draw as the third seeds knocked out the reigning regional Junior Champions and tournament favourites, Jack and Angela Yu. The brother-and-sister combination looked on track to recover from one game down but Ryan Venpin and Kaitlyn Ea proved too strong in today’s Semi-Final.
Meanwhile, the second seeds survived a scare in the Semi-Final as Otto Xing De Zhao and Kelly Xu put up a convincing fight, but narrowly missed out on a spot in tomorrow’s final.
- Ryan Venpin/Kaitlyn Ea (AUS)[3] vs Jack Yu/Angela Yu (AUS)[1] 21-15 21-17
