Badminton Oceania’s Participation & Development Manager, Sam Kreutzer and Development Officer, Dhanny Oud are currently in Papua New Guinea attending the Team Up Annual PNG Partner Conference.
Team Up is the Australian Government’s sport for development program, and Inclusive GymBad is one of 30 partnerships in the Pacific. As a sport for development, as opposed to sports development program, Team Up uses sport as a tool for social development – specifically focusing on three outcomes:
- Attract and retain women, girls and people with a disability, as well as men and boys
- Sport organisations are safe, inclusive and accessible
- Australia and Asia-Pacific partners use sport to strengthen relationships and build closer collaboration
The Inclusive GymBad program aims to remove or reduce the barriers experienced by people with a disability, particularly women and girls, to participate equally. GymBad contributes to Team Up’s overall goal that sport partnerships support all people to realise their full potential through sport.
GymBad representatives in attendance are Sam Kreutzer (GymBad Project Lead), Dhanny Oud, Laurel Vagi (Badminton Papua New Guinea Admin/GymBad Project Lead-PNG), Joyce Koiari (Badminton Papua New Guinea Monitoring & Evaluation), Dorna Longbut (Coach), Tim Cleasby (Interplast Australia & New Zealand Project Coordinator).
The Team Up workshops are being delivered by Melissa Palombi (Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting & Learning Advisor), Joanna Lester (Media & Strategic Communications Advisor) & Milton Kisapai (PNG Sports Partnerships Specialist). All of the Papua New Guinea Team Up programmes are represented here including codes such as NRL, Football/Soccer, Netball, Badminton, AFL, Basketball, Hockey).
While in Papua New Guinea, Sam and Dhanny will attend the conference, participate in a number of workshops and meet with key stakeholders.
Next week Sam and Dhanny will join Ian Bridge (Disability Consultant & Para Badminton Coach) delivering Para Badminton training sessions to Papua New Guinea athletes.
