Players from around the region will spend the next two days competing at the VICTOR Oceania Para-Badminton Championships 2018.
With representatives from Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, the athletes will be competing across the following Para-Badminton disciplines:
- Men’s Singles SL 3 + SL 4
- Men’s Singles WH 1
- Men’s Singles WH 2
- Women’s Singles SL 3 + SL 4
- Singles SS 6
- Men’s Double’s SL3 + SL 4
- Men’s Doubles WH 1 – WH 2
- Women’s Doubles SL 3 + SL 4
- Mixed Doubles SL 3 – SU 5
- Men’s/Mixed Doubles SS 6

On day one of the competition, the morning has been full of standing matches across
New Zealand’s Corrie Keith Robinson and Australia’s Caitlin Dransfield have lead the charge on day one of the competition, winning the opening Mixed Doubles SL3 – SU5 match against the Australian duo Hayden Bognar and Celine Vinot 21-3 21-6. The pair’s winning streak continued throughout the morning as they won against Australia’s Phonexay Kinnavong and Anu Francis 21-9 21-11.
“We worked really well together as a pair this morning and I am extremely happy to have won both matches. We hope our winning streak continues into tomorrow as I hope to win Gold!” says Dransfield.
Both players are celebrating success in their respective singles categories too having won their matches so far throughout the morning.
In the short stature competition, PE teacher and World Dwarf Games medallist Kobie Donovan has finished day one with one win and one loss in the Singles SS 6 event. Recovering from a 21-4 21-6 against fellow compatriot, Luke Missen from Australia, she went on to win against Fijian player Iosefo Rakesa 21-7 21-8.
Rakesa is competing in his first regional Championships and is relatively new to the sport. His athleticism and ability to move around the court reflect a promising future for the athlete.
